Welding Engineering – Level 3

• Preparing and Quality Controlling the Welding process
• Welding with MMA Process
• Welding with TIG Process
• Assignment Book

September – June

You must have achieved an appropriate Level 2 qualification.

Assessment will be on-going in the workshop throughout the year for all practical welding where you will need to complete eight test pieces, four MMA and four TAGs.

There is a Gola Health and Safety multi choice exam. Three written exams including Prep and QA, Manual Metal Arc Welding and Tungsten Arc Gas Welding.

This qualification will provide you with a range of transferable skills so that you can progress onto a range of our HE courses.

Past students have progressed onto an apprenticeship standard in welding. You can also progress onto a range of engineering courses at degree level including the Higher National Certificate/ Diploma in engineering; pathways include electrical and electronic engineering, instrumentation operations engineering, manufacturing engineering or mechanical engineering. You can also study a degree in engineering.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home-fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

All full time students will be offered a number of options to secure at least 10 days of meaningful work experience during the year. This is an important aspect of the course and will help to develop your skills to get a job, progress to a higher level qualification at Middlesbrough College or potentially gain a place at university.
