The Tees Valley’s business community came out in force for Middlesbrough College Group’s fourth annual charity football tournament, scoring a brilliant £10,640 in support of the MFC Foundation.
This year’s tournament, sponsored by Hand2Hold, wasn’t the only success as Middlesbrough College were recently awarded the very first Diamond Friend of the Foundation.
This award was presented just before the fourth annual tournament, for recognition of the funds raised over that past year including support of continued fundraising events and fundraising by the students as part of Roary’s Big Week.
Thirty teams laced up their boots for the tournament including businesses like SeAH Wind, Tees Components, AV Dawson and SNE Care who lifted the trophy after a tense final against Miller Homes.
Students and staff brought the event to life with catering, DJ music and sports students offering massages and first aid to participants.
Event organiser Peter Donnelly, associate director of business development at Middlesbrough College, said: “We are incredibly proud of the impact this tournament has made over the past four years.
“The amount raised has grown year-on-year which is a testament to everyone involved and has had huge positive impact for the MFC Foundation.
“To be named the first Diamond Friend of the foundation is a real honour and reflects the dedication of our staff, students and all the local businesses who get involved to support the Foundation’s vital work.
“This year’s tournament was a truly feel-good day, raising vital funds for an incredible cause and showcasing the power of community collaboration.
“It’s an event that continues to go from strength to strength, and we’re already looking forward to celebrating our fifth year in 2026, making an even greater difference.”
Paul Shepherd, business development manager at MFC Foundation, added: “We’re incredibly grateful to Middlesbrough College for their continued support and the incredible amount raised through this year’s tournament.
“Being awarded our first Diamond Friend is a reflection of their ongoing commitment to the foundation.
“We also want to thank the local businesses who took part. Once again, the turnout was fantastic, and it’s inspiring to see so many organisations come together to make a real difference in our community.”
