There will be no scheduled lessons on Wednesday 29th November for full-time 16-18 year old students due to a staff CPD day. A Level students will be in college as normal.
Ben helps students thrive to reach their full potential
Ben recently joined the Middlesbrough College Group as TTE’s Thrive and Personal Development tutor, helping current students with various life skills to best prepare them for the real world.
Ben, a previous student at Middlesbrough College who studied performing arts, had an exciting acting background playing various roles up and down the country. However alongside his acting career Ben wanted something more long term.
Ben came back to Middlesbrough College to study for his PGCE then noticed a new tutor position become available.
“I’ve always wanted to work in Education so when this opportunity came up I knew I had to apply.
It’s different to anything I have ever done and no day is the same – what I love about the role is how I can make a difference to someone’s life!”
As a Thrive and Personal Development tutor, Ben is on hand to support his students with this, teaching sessions around skills for employment, team building, problem solving and collaboration. In addition to topics to help students keep safe such as first aid, safeguarding and Prevent training and personal welfare.
Thrive is an extensive programme of activities and events which students’ study alongside their main study programme, helping them to prepare for progression and success in life, learning and work. Ben plays a key role in delivering this programme of sessions.
“ In my role I can create a varied programme of lessons that range from guest lectures to mock interviews and workshops – students are learning all the time but no session is the same, I like to try and make things as exciting as possible for them.”

The College has opened up lots of new opportunities for me and I really do love coming into work every day. I love helping others and this role allows me to do just that.
