Beau studied the Access to Higher Education Diploma in Computing at Middlesbrough College and then progressed to the College’s University Centre to study the Higher National Certificate in Computing (Network Engineering), which is Institute of Technology recognised.

Beau said: “I enrolled on a Business Management degree course at a different local College and had a bad experience. The teaching and the course wasn’t what I thought it would be, so I dropped out and was searching for my next step.

“Building computers has been a hobby of mine for many years and something that I’ve enjoyed doing, so I decided to investigate this as a career, and when I heard about Middlesbrough College’s exciting digital offering, I decided to come along to an Open Event to find out more.

“I spoke with Cher who is one of the College’s digital tutors and she quickly reassured me and gave me excellent advice and guidance about the options available to me. She told me about the Access to HE Diploma, and I was sold on it. I applied immediately and was thrilled to enrol onto the course to start my new career path. I really enjoyed my time studying the Access to HE Diploma at Middlesbrough College, it’s probably one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life! The course developed my skills and knowledge in the sector and my tutors provided excellent support.

“After completing my Access course, I was delighted to be accepted onto a University level course with the College’s University Centre. I’m now studying in the dedicated digital centre and the facilities are outstanding. My tutors act more as mentors and are on hand whenever you need them. I’ve had 1:1 sessions and help with my work which has been amazing.

“I’m planning to continue progressing at the College and complete my BSc (Hons) Computing degree. I would love to work abroad in the future in the industry, and I know there are loads of opportunities in the sector to do this!

“Studying at Middlesbrough College has been a life changing move for me, and I would 100% recommend the experience. My advice to anyone thinking of coming back to education is to go for it. Come in and speak with a member of the team. They have your best interests at heart and want you to succeed. The College really cares about you and your wellbeing and progression. My tutors have also put me forward for a job role in the IT department at the College- it’s fantastic how they provide their students with these amazing opportunities!”
