62 year old sports lover Alan is launching himself a new career in Sport Therapy thanks to Middlesbrough College.

Alan Maloney received an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Health (accredited by One Awards) from Middlesbrough College in 2015 and is now studying for a degree in Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation.

At 58 years of age, Alan thought he was too old to return back to education, but with the support of the College and a desire to make a difference in a subject he loves, Alan is now one step closer to fulfilling his career dreams.

Alan said “Studying a degree has always been on my bucket list and I have always enjoyed playing and supporting sport, particularly karate and martial arts. After battling cancer for a year I am happy to say that I am all clear and now studying a degree in a subject I’m passionate about.

“Studying my Access Diploma at Middlesbrough College was the start of it all. The tutors were brilliant; they made the subject interesting and really helped me in making that first step back into education. The College is first rate and the facilities and support I received was just excellent- I can’t fault it at all.

“My advice to anyone thinking about starting a new career or coming back into education is to just do it! Life really is too short so do something for you!”
