Recognised Practitioners Programme (Ex01RPP – Ex04RPP)

This course is for practising Electrical and Instrument Engineers, Supervisors and Technicians who need to renew their core competency in the selection, installation, inspection and maintenance of electrical apparatus in potentially explosive atmospheres to 60079-14/60079-17.

It is advisable to attend the Refresher course at least 3 months before the certificate expiry date.

Candidates who possess a Non-Technical or Site Specific CompEx certificate must enrol on the CompEx Ex01 to Ex04, 5 day course, to re-certify.

The programme requires that personnel registering for a refresher course are recommended to have worked regularly in the industry during the previous 5 years, come prepared having done some self-study revision work and can gland, terminate, inspect and test a variety of cables/equipment. They MUST have a valid CompEx certificate for the corresponding units to be refreshed.

You will study:

• Sources of ignition
• Nature of hazards, identification of hazards
• Area classifications zone 0, 1 and 2
• Selection of apparatus, cabling, glanding and termination
• Inspection and testing
• Management and remedial work

The course candidate should have time-served as an Electrical/Instrument Apprentice or possess an Electrical/Instrument NVQ Level 3 (as a minimum).

Delivery will be a combination of classroom tuition, simulations and practical in the workshop.

The assessment comprises:

Workshop based:

• Ex01 Glanding exercise
• Ex02 Inspection
• Ex04 Inspection

Classroom based:

• Ex01 and Ex03 On-line installation simulator using CompEx supplied Equipment List (to be handed back at the end of the assessment).
• On-line Multi-choice theory test. CompEx currently allows the use of a controlled copy of EEMUA 214 – Toolbox guide for this element (to be handed back at the end of the assessment).

Candidates are NOT allowed to use their own toolbox guide in the online exam.
