Former Middlesbrough College student Millie Blenkinsopp is working hard on the NHS frontline in a time like no other.

Millie studied A Level’s at Middlesbrough College Sixth Form and progressed to study a foundation degree in health, well-being and social care at The Middlesbrough College University Centre. After successfully completing her foundation degree, Millie was accepted onto an adult nursing degree programme to fulfil her career ambition of becoming a nurse.

Now twenty-year old Millie is supporting the country through the Coronavirus pandemic and is devoting her University placement time to the Covid-19 ward- a true NHS hero.

Millie said: “I absolutely loved studying at Middlesbrough College. I completed my A Levels at the College and then went onto to complete my foundation degree.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help of Middlesbrough College!  I am currently studying adult nursing at University and I’m really enjoying it!

“I am currently on placement in a Covid ward. The work is hard and can be tiring, but I love the team that I’m working with- everyone on the ward is fantastic and I admire each and every one of them!”

Millie, who aspires to become a sister in a ward after completing her degree, believes it was the work placement opportunities and tutors at Middlesbrough College who ignited her passion to work in the health sector.

Millie said: “I was able to have a range of work experience opportunities throughout my studies at Middlesbrough College which I thoroughly enjoyed.

“I volunteered in the cardiac wards at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough which was a very rewarding experience. It was during this placement that I knew I wanted to become a nurse.

“The placement opportunities definitely helped to grow my confidence and gave me vital skills which I have benefited from greatly during my nursing degree

“Both my A Levels and my foundation degree gave me the skills and knowledge I needed to succeed in my nursing qualification and I would recommend studying at Middlesbrough College to anyone who has ambitions of working for the NHS or in the health sector.

“I have to thank my tutors in both my A Level courses and in my foundation degree for their support-they are amazing! The teaching in all my courses was outstanding and helped me to achieve excellent grades.

“I loved my time at Middlesbrough College and I’m so proud to now be working on the frontline helping to fight Covid-19!”
