Pickerings Lifts recently welcomed two work placement students, so that they could learn more about lift engineering.
In February, Pickerings Lifts attended a ‘Get that Apprenticeship’ event at Middlesbrough College, where our staff took the opportunity to speak to college students and young people about how apprenticeships are a fantastic way to kick-start your engineering career.
Following the event, two students were invited for work experience at Pickerings Lifts, so that they could find out more about a potential career as a lift engineer.
Cade and Reece, who are studying Level 3 Electrical Installation at Middlesbrough College, both spent a week with our teams in Stockton-On-Tees. Following a health and safety induction and a tour of the offices, they were then partnered up with lift engineers where they had the opportunity to see lifts being repaired and maintained, as well as ask questions.
As well as attending site with our skilled engineers, Cade and Reece spent time in our North East office, where they got to see how the office worked, how our engineers are allocated their routes and how we respond to an emergency call-out situation, from initial phone call through to customer sign-off.
The two students also spent time with all of our departments at Head Office, to see how they all work together in order to help bring in business and support the regional offices.
Cade said of his experience “It has been a great experience, no two days have been the same here, which has been really exciting.”
Reece said: “I’ve really enjoyed my work experience, lift engineering wasn’t really something I was considering when I started my course but now it’s something I would like to know more about.”
Stephanie Coleman, Executive Director of Business and Partnerships, from Middlesbrough College said: “Work experience is a vital part of all of our courses as it enables our students to put the knowledge they have learned into practice, in a working environment. We’re happy to hear that Cade and Reece both enjoyed their work experience at Pickerings Lifts and would consider lift engineering as a future career path.”
After they have completed their Electrical Installation course, Cade and Reece will be looking to enrol on an NVQ Level 3 in their chosen field of employment, as part of an apprenticeship.
We wish them both the best of luck in their future careers!
