Beauty student Millie lands dream job on luxury cruise liner

Beauty student Millie Cargan is about to embark on a new adventure discovering the oceans of the world.

The 18-year-old from Redcar has landed her dream job working for the on board spa company, Steiner.

She was offered the position after going head to head with other hopefuls at an assessment day in Newcastle. Millie impressed the panel during her trade test where she carried out a massage treatment and consultation.

The teenager, who studies Level 3 Beauty Therapy, will travel to London in August to complete a seven-week training process. She will take to the high seas in September, after signing a nine-month contract.

The former Rye Hills Academy student will pamper cruise guests with massages, beauty treatments and other spa therapies.

Millie said: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and is something I’ve always dreamed about doing.

“My tutors were so supportive in helping me to prepare for the interview process and what to expect.

“I’ve always had an interest in the beauty industry and this new position will allow me to travel the world whilst developing my skills.

“I’m still waiting to find out which cruise lines I will be based on, but I’d love to explore Australia!"

Sandie Owens, Lecturer of Beauty Therapy said: “Every year we invite employers to the College to discuss careers in beauty therapy during industry week. After listening to a presentation from Steiner, Millie knew this was the industry for her, and I’m thrilled to hear that they have offered her a contract.

“It is such a competitive industry and extremely difficult to secure employment on the cruise liners.

“Working for Steiner is such an incredible opportunity and the experience she will have working on the liners will enable her to demonstrate to future potential employers that she is a hardworking, highly skilled and committed therapist.”
