Mix and match A Levels with BTECs and Cambridge Technicals!

06 April 2018

At Middlesbrough College Sixth Form Centre we offer a wide variety of Level 3 courses delivered through practical and academic qualifications, these include A Levels, Cambridge Technicals and BTECS.

A Levels are academic based courses that are usually assessed through examinations at the end of your two years of study. Click here to view the range of A Level courses that we deliver at Middlesbrough College Sixth Form.

Cambridge Technicals and BTECS are more vocationally orientated qualifications and are assessed primarily through coursework.  These are one or two year courses that allow you to gain the knowledge and skills needed in a specific career area. These courses are ideal if you enjoy learning in a practical and work-related way.  These qualifications are equivalent to an A Level and carry the same amount of UCAS points. At Middlesbrough College Sixth Form we offer Criminology, Business, Law, IT, Health and Social Care, Performing Arts, Music Practice, Journalism, Engineering, Construction and Sport. We also offer a triple award Applied Science course which is equivalent to 3 A Levels.

The Combined Programme has the advantage of offering you greater breadth to your studies as you can take an A Level alongside a Cambridge Technical or BTEC.  There are many benefits of studying a combined programme, you can learn practical skills which are prized by employers through a more vocational course and you can also gain an excellent foundation for further academic study by studying an A Level. A combined programme will also allow you to keep your options open by gaining additional qualifications and broadening your future career opportunities. We are proud to be one of the few Colleges in the region to offer this unique programme of study.

Students generally study the equivalent of three subjects so at the end of their studies they can progress to university or enter employment. All of our subjects are taught in our Sixth Form Centre, MC6 by A Level subject specialist teachers, but you will also have access to the main College facilities, dependent upon your vocational course, for example if you are studying the Performing Arts course you will have access to our 156 seat theatre and rehearsal spaces.
