We are a specialist STEM College providing dedicated support and commitment to developing high quality education for all students’ in science, technology, engineering and mathematics across Teesside, ensuring that learners receive the best possible STEM education.

Our vision focusses on economic growth and prosperity as we play a key role in meeting the needs of scientific, technological and manufacturing employers in our region and beyond and closing the STEM skills gap.

We offer a particular focus in engineering and manufacturing, science and health, computing and digital media, energy and sustainable construction.

We offer A Level programmes in the three core sciences; biology, chemistry and physics. We also offer a full time, 2 year stand-alone course in applied science that is equivalent to three A Levels.

Our A Level biology teacher Richard Spencer is considered among the best in the world and has won numerous awards, including FE Teacher of the Year, Top 100 UK Scientist and Top Ten Finalist in the Global Teacher Prize.

Many of our vocational programmes have science embedded in them such as the Health & Care Diploma which covers anatomy, physiology and alternative medicine.

Middlesbrough College boasts specialised science laboratories in both our main College and Sixth Form Centre and a realistic on-site health and care ward that replicates a hospital environment.

At Middlesbrough College we offer an A Level in computer science which boasts a 100% A Level pass rate with higher than national average A*-C grades.

Many of our vocational courses are embedded in technology such as our games design, media and computing courses which are taught in our state of the art facilities, including our large Apple iMac suite with state of the art computer software, creative media workshops, games design studios with the latest 3D design packages and game engines, and virtual reality testing labs.

We offer part time courses in robotics looking at their applications and components and how to operate them safely.

Middlesbrough College is the largest provider of City & Guilds engineering courses in the UK and students can gain additional employability skills such as health and safety, permits to work and risk assessments in our STEM Training Centre. With industry trained experts developing and delivering our training, our aim is to deliver world class training and to shape the skills agenda for the 21st Century.

Our £20 million STEM Training Centre is a leading provider of technical training, skills, behaviours and competency solutions. The specialist industry centre and state of the art facilities allow us to ensure that learners are being taught in a real work environment with high specification equipment that matches that of an industrial setting. Operating as a simulated industrial site, students train in this facility as part of their studies to develop key skills required by employers including health and safety.

We also work with a range of local, top employers and provide a range of engineering apprenticeships with our training arm Northern Skills.

We provide A Level maths and further maths in our Sixth Form Centre and many of our maths A Level students go on to study related degrees at Russell Group universities.

Maths is embedded within many of our vocational programmes such as the Business Extended Diploma covering modules such as accounting, finance and the economic environment.

We also provide GCSE maths and Functional Skills maths classes for school leavers and adults and these are free for learners who do not have a GCSE Maths at grade 4 (C) or above.
