Travelling to and from College shouldn’t be an issue, which is why we‘ve teamed up with the area’s biggest travel operators to offer students FREE* weekday bus travel up to 7pm and REIMBURSED weekday train travel to and from Middlesbrough College.
During enrolment, each student will be given an ID card which will act as their travel pass and can be used on weekdays up to 7pm during term time.
Whether students live 15 or 50 minutes away, there are a number of bus and train routes available to make the journey that bit easier.
Please note: The free travel offer is for Full-time students.
*Free travel for all students eligible for financial assistance and for all other students travel will be £60 per term fee.
FREE* train travel 16-17 Saver Card
If you are aged 16-17 in order to take advantage of free train travel, you need to have a household income of less than £100,000 which will be assessed via the financial assistance application form found here. You will be expected to purchase the 16-17 Saver Rail Card which costs just £35 per year and will save you 50% on your train fare. Middlesbrough College will then reimburse the remaining 50% of your train fare when travelling from one of the named stations above.
Eligible stations for refunds include: Darlington North Road, Darlington Bank Top, Dinsdale, Allens West, Eaglescliffe, Hartlepool, Seaton Carew, Seaham, Thirsk, Northallerton, Yarm, Thornaby and Stockton.
With the 16-17 Saver Card you will be able to travel across the National Rail network, except on ScotRail and the Caledonian Sleeper, so you can use it on weekends and college holidays to go on shopping trips or days out. Visit www.16-17saver.co.uk to apply for your Saver Card today.

If you are 18+, then please bring your normal fare ticket to Student Services for this to be reimbursed – you must still have a household income of less than £100,000 to be eligible for refunds.
FREE* bus travel
We offer free* bus travel to full-time students across the Tees Valley on Stagecoach and Arriva North East. You can plan your journey to and from college at Connect Tees Valley or alternatively pick up a timetable from student services.
Riverside Park RP1 – student can take advantage of this free bus services to get to and from the College from inside the Middlesbrough Bus Station
Stagecoach – Free* weekday travel up to 7pm effective from Monday 8th September 2025 until Friday 26th June 2026 inclusive, on the Stagecoach North East while services are in operation. You can travel on weekends and holidays (not including the Summer holidays) at a reduced fare of £1 per journey when you show your ID card.
Arriva North East – Free* weekday travel up to 7pm effective from Monday 8th September 2025 until Friday 26th June 2026 .This will cover the Teesside and East Cleveland area only. You can travel on weekends and holidays (not including the Summer holidays) at a reduced fare of £1 per journey when you show your ID card.
In addition to the public buses above the College operates a range of dedicated buses to get your son/daughter to College each morning, which means that only Middlesbrough College/TTE students can get on them. They will be asked to sit on the same seat each day on our dedicated buses.

MC2 – Easington via Brotton, Skelton, Guisborough, Ormesby
MC3 – Great Ayton via Stokesley and Hutton Rudby
MC4 – Saltburn, Marske, New Marske, Redcar

Travelling by car
If your child wants to travel to College by car, they can apply for a parking permit to use the College car park. Please come to the Help Centre at the College to complete the information required. Please enquire about permit prices.
