Abel Neish

Trainee Careers Adviser

"I joined Middlesbrough College as a Schools Liaison Officer back in 2018 after finishing University. Whilst completing my higher education study, I spent three years at York St. John University as an undergraduate, followed by a further year of study at Northumbria University completing my postgraduate degree.

"During my initial role at Middlesbrough College, I really enjoyed working within the Schools Team, and this role provided me with an opportunity to complete my Level 4 Diploma in Career Information and Advice. I recently moved roles in June 2021 to become a Trainee Careers Adviser and I am excited for this new challenge.

"As part of my new role, I am currently working towards completing my Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development.

"After completing my higher education study, I was always interested to continue working within education within the North East. The School Liaison Officer role at Middlesbrough College provided me with a great opportunity to do this.

"I have worked at the College for nearly 3 years now. The two roles I have had in that time have changed in different ways, particularly in terms of the technology which we use to complete day-to-day tasks and appointments with clients. The range of available courses that we offer has also grown in the time I have been at Middlesbrough College.

"One of my favourite things about working at Middlesbrough College is the great atmosphere around the campus that is created by both staff and students. I also really enjoy working within such a positive team environment. My current role is so varied and it is refreshing for me to interact with so many different people on a daily basis.

"There are many perks of working at the College. I personally like taking part in some of the weekly staff activities, including staff football, which are often free and really accessible.

"I would encourage anyone who is thinking about applying to the College to do so. The College environment is very friendly and it is an enjoyable place to work and learn.

"I am a keen runner and like playing football whenever I can. I also enjoy playing guitar."
