The police play an important role in preventing crimes, protecting communities and helping support people. With the recent push from the government to hire more police officers, it’s never been a better time to pursue a career in the police force.

What is Access to HE Diploma in Policing?

Here at Middlesbrough College our HE Access to Policing Diploma has been specifically designed to help adult learners take the first step into their future career. This intensive course spans over a year and helps provide a flexible and affordable route into Higher Education, preparing you for university study and take you closer to your goals of working within the police force or the even wider range of jobs in the criminal justice sector.

You will study:

  • Crime in context
  • Criminal law
  • Introduction to law enforcement
  • Professional behaviors for police officers
  • Sociology of crime and deviance
  • Explain, understand and explore the cause of crime
  • Collect, analyze and evaluate research data
  • Understand the fundamental principles of criminal liability
  • Analyze the role and responsibilities of law enforcement officers in the UK

Throughout your time on the course, you will gain valuable knowledge in areas such as law and criminology, crime in context, law enforcement and the professional behaviors expected of police officers. You will also learn and develop a deep understanding of the roles and responsibilities that law enforcement professionals in the UK follow.

What are the entry requirements?

To study Access to HE Diploma (Policing), applicants must be 19 years or older and have both math’s and English at Level 2 or above.

Applicants should also meet the Police Officer entry requirements; these can be found here and should be read prior to applying for the course.
