Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery – Level 1

• Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction
• Principles of Building Construction, Information and Communication
• Maintain and use Carpentry and Joinery Hand Tools
• Prepare and use Carpentry and Joinery Portable Power Tools
• Produce Woodworking Joints

September – June

You must have achieved an appropriate Entry Level vocational qualification and/or GCSEs at grade 2-1 (E-F) or above.

On-going assessment will take place throughout the course with a strong emphasis on practical skills. There are also a number of short theory tests and a multiple choice online exams as part of the assessment process.

You can progress onto a Level 2 site carpentry construction programme.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home-fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

All full-time students will be offered a number of options to secure at least 10 days of meaningful work experience during the year. This is an important aspect of the course and will help to develop your skills to get a job, progress to a higher level qualification at Middlesbrough College or potentially gain a place at University.
