Children’s book success for Middlesbrough College tutor Becky
Becky Wright, an A Level Art tutor and technician at Middlesbrough College has illustrated a recently released children’s book- ‘Shark goes to the dentist’.
Talented artist Becky illustrated the book that was written by her friend Mia Anderson, a Primary School Teacher from Middlesbrough. The pair joined forces during the Coronavirus lockdown to create the project.
Becky said: “I started painting during the first lockdown which was something I hadn’t done since art school! I’m over the moon to have released the book with my friend Mia.”
The teaching duo are already working on their second book which will form part of an underwater based children’s book series.
Becky said: “I can’t wait to get started on the next book! I absolutely love working in the arts and using my skills for amazing projects.”
Throughout her career and education, Becky has worked in a range of art based roles including working on cruise ships, freelance photography, events and education.
After travelling in the cruise ship industry, Becky decided to pursue a career in teaching. She gained a trainee art teaching role at a college in Birmingham and has since taught at Middlesbrough College, inspiring and influencing future artists. As well as teaching, Becky works as a freelance photographer and for a schools photography company.
Becky said: “I love working at Middlesbrough College. The atmosphere is lovely and everyone is so friendly.
“My advice to students considering a career in the arts is to practice and to make the most of every opportunity you are given. Gain as many skills as you can in a range of different art disciplines.
“I would definitely recommend studying and working here, the facilities are fantastic and the art departments have an amazing range of equipment.”
