Monty Python's Spamalot comes to Middlesbrough College

16 June 2022

Middlesbrough College’s Performing and Production Arts department are on a quest to bring to life the musical inspired by Monty Python, Spamalot!

King Arthur, the Lady of the Lake and a host of gloriously entertaining characters are set to delight audiences at the Middlesbrough College Theatre as they search for the Holy Grail and “always look on the bright side of life".

Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python’s Spamalot retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. Audiences can expect to enjoy an outrageous adventure filled with song, dance, rude Frenchmen, cows, killer rabbits and the odd knights who say “ni!”.

Level 3 Performing Arts (Acting) student Ethan Warren is starring as the lead role of King Arthur. He said: “The show is hilarious! It’s so funny that the audience will be clutching their stomachs in pain from laughing! You don’t want to miss this so make sure you book your tickets.

“I’ve absolutely loved studying Performing Arts at Middlesbrough College. I’ve been fortunate to perform in a wide range of shows and I’ve played some great roles, including King Arthur! The performing opportunities that we have here at Middlesbrough College are fantastic. It’s great to be able to gain the experience on stage, improve my confidence and develop my skillset.”

Sharing the role of the Lady of the Lake are two talented Level 3 Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) students, Millie Dean and Keeley Octon. Keeley said: “The show is lots of fun and I’ve had the best time rehearsing for it!

“It’s the first time since the coronavirus pandemic that the College has been able to put on a full-scale musical. I’m thrilled that the Middlesbrough College musicals are back! This show is crazy in the best possible way with amazing costumes, set, dance routines and vocals. My favourite moment has to be singing the divas lament.”

Millie said: “I’ve loved putting together this show and working with everyone in the department. We have all worked together as one big team and the hard work has paid off as the show looks incredible.

“Middlesbrough College is a fantastic community to be part of. Everyone supports each other and the tutors have worked so hard to put on this spectacular production. I would encourage everyone to book a ticket!”

Spamalot will run from Monday 20th June- Thursday 23rd June at the Middlesbrough College Theatre. Tickets are priced at £10 and £7 for concessions. Book your tickets here.
