Meet the Employability and Projects Team

The dedicated Employability and Projects Team at Middlesbrough College are on hand to provide students with career support and create bespoke training for the local community.

Meet the team, find out more their roles and their guilty pleasures!

Rachel G – Head of Employability and Projects

Rachel heads up the Employabity and Projects team at Middlesbrough College, where she works with the priority areas of the Tees Valley combined authority. Rachel is responsible for creating strategies which exceeds the Labour needs of Middlesbrough and its surrounding areas.

Rachel’s trade mark is her red lippy in support of her favourite football club MFC.

Fiona – Programme’s Co-ordinator

Fiona has been with Middlesbrough College since 2003, working in various roles before becoming programme co-ordinator. Fiona's role involves implementing courses that are needed to fulfil the need of the local labour market.

Fiona also enjoys organising the social calendar for the team! 

Karen – Employer Engagement

Karen engages with local employers and supports learners with preparation for interviews and CV support.

Karen’s guilty pleasures are Take That and reality TV.


Olivia – Employability and Projects Administrator 

Olivia supports the team across all projects, her main strengths being IT and system. Olivia supports the YEI Programme and is incredible at engaging with our young learners.

Outside of work, Olivia is an Instagram Queen!

Simone – Employability and Projects Apprentice Administrator

Simone is the team apprentice and is currently completing her Business Administration level 3 qualification. She supports with the day-to-day running of the Job Shop and is the first point of contact for all learners.

Simone has a black belt in karate and is a huge Lewis Capaldi fan!

Gareth – Employability Tutor 

Gareth is our employability tutor, with over 10 years of experience working with learners from a diverse background. Gareth has created bespoke training packages to support some of our leading local employers.

Gareth is a Game of Thrones geek! 

Rachael D – Community Learning Tutor

Rachael takes Middlesbrough College out into the community, supporting various groups of people with the aim to bring our local communities together.

Rachael’s ideal night in would include Netflix and cheese.

Nicole – YEI Instructor

Nicole works on the YEI programme and assist with the delivery of our employability projects. Nicole supports with the development of our students, from their self-esteem to their next steps.

Nicole has a black belt in Judo and was selected for the GB team!

Clare – YEI Activities Instructor 

Clare works on the YEI programme and her specialty is sport. Clare organises activities both on and off-site to help with team building skills. Clare’s interest in sport stem from a passion in football - she has previously played for Middlesbrough FC Ladies.

Clare famously toured North Korea, building relations as an MFC sport ambassador.
