Family inspiration sets Zahra on a path to medicine
22 August 2018
Zahra Bournenane's family have seen both sides of the health service- and it's been the inspiration for her choice of career.
Zahra, 19, from Belle Vue, Middlesbrough, has just gained the two A grades she needs to study medicine at Hull York Medical School so she can become a doctor.
Zahra was impressed by the sympathy and care shown by health professionals to her aunt when she was being treated for cancer- and is delighted she's now in remission.
And Zahra, who is one of five children, has also seen her sister, Hannah 21, graduate as a midwife.
"I was absolutely determined to study medicine and first took A Levels last year at Macmillan Academy but I needed to up my grades to be able to study medicine- and I'm thrilled to have done it.
"I got the A in chemistry that I needed and sat the A Level Geography in a year, so I was surprised but delighted to get an A as I didn't even do it at GCSE.
"The staff and atmosphere at Middlesbrough College are amazing- the staff are so encouraging and there's always someone you can talk to. The facilities are great too" said Zahra.
