English Literature (A Level) – Level 3

Love Through The Ages:

For this exam you will explore how love has been presented in literature throughout history.

You will study:

• One Shakespeare play (Othello)
• An anthology of pre1900 poetry
• And one novel (The Great Gatsby)

Texts in Shared Contexts:

For this exam you will study a range of literature both from and about The First World War.

This will include:

• R.C. Sherriff’s Journey’s End
• An anthology of WW1 poems
• Pat Barker’s Life Class

Content offered may vary.

This is a 2 year course studied September – June.

Five GCSEs at grade 4/5 or above, including GCSE English language at grade 6.

As well as the entry requirements above you will also need to meet the specific requirements for the A Level courses you choose.

80% by examination at the end of the two years.

20% coursework – an independent piece of work on a comparative critical study of two texts, at least one of which must have been written pre-1900.

University opportunities:

Past students have progressed to study degrees in English, education, journalism, marketing, business, human resource management, law and public relations.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home-fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.
