Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner – Level 2

Modules will include:

• Roles and responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner (EYP)
• Health and safety in the early years
• Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children
• Equality, diversity and inclusive practices in the early years including babies and children with SEND
• Supporting children’s development
• Supporting care routines
• Supporting the planning and delivery of purposeful play activities
• Supporting children to be school ready
• Supporting positive behaviours

This is a pass/fail course – students must achieve all criteria to pass the course.

September – June

Three GCSEs at Grade 3 and above, including maths OR English Language AND a Grade 4 in maths or English Language. Or you must have completed a suitable Level 1 course and have GCSE English Language or maths at Grade 4.

This programme is assessed through a number of methods including written assignments, presentations, case studies and professional discussion.

Part of the assessment is completed within a childcare setting where you will be observed by your college assessor.

English and maths is assessed via the completion of an externally marked exam.

You can progress on to a Level 3 course in a childcare programme (Grade 4 English and maths must be achieved).

You could also progress to an advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship Children and Young Peoples Workforce or seek employment as a Level 2 Practitioner.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home-fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

All full-time students will be offered a number of options to secure at least 10 days of meaningful work experience during the year. This is an important aspect of the course and will help to develop your skills to get a job, progress to a higher level qualification at Middlesbrough College or potentially gain a place at university.
