Carpentry and Joinery – Level 1

Modules offered may vary.

Modules will include:

• Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction
• Principles of Building Construction, Information and Communication
• Maintain and use Carpentry and Joinery Hand Tools
• Prepare and use Carpentry and Joinery Portable Power Tools
• Produce Woodworking Joints

September – June

You must have achieved an appropriate Entry Level vocational qualification and/or GCSEs at grade 2-1 (E-F) or above.

On-going assessment will take place throughout the course with a strong emphasis on practical skills. There are also a number of short theory tests and a multiple choice online exams as part of the assessment process.

You can progress onto a Level 2 site carpentry construction programme.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home-fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

All full-time students will be offered a number of options to secure internal and external work experience during the year. This is an important aspect of the course and will help to develop your skills to get a job, progress to a higher-level qualification at Middlesbrough College or potentially gain a place at University.
