56-year-old Vincent Ransome has taken on a new challenge, with help from Middlesbrough College. Vincent or ‘Vinnie’ as he is known, is now enjoying a new role as a security guard with Close Protection Security.

After taking a break from work for six months, Vinnie decided to enrol onto a Security programme with Middlesbrough College. The 3-week course allows students work with one of the UK’s leading security firms, Close Protection Security. This bespoke training programme supports adults who are unemployed to get back into work and education and develop the skills needed to succeed in the industry.

Vinnie said: “I really enjoyed studying at Middlesbrough College! As part of the three week programme we studied a range of different subjects which were designed to provide us with the essential skills for working as part of the security sector. We acted out different scenarios to help improve our customer service skills and so we knew what to do in a conflict situation.

“My tutors at Middlesbrough College were excellent. I was well supported during my studies and I was offered help with my CV and interview preparation. If you are out of work at the moment or feel like you need a new challenge then I would definitely recommend the programme.”

After completing the programme, Vinnie applied to work as a security guard at Close Protection Security and impressed management with his interview! Now he is enjoying his new career with his supportive new employer.

Vinnie said: “Middlesbrough College has helped me get the career that I want. My skills in customer service and communication have improved and I now have a job that I love!

“Close Protection Security are a fantastic company to work for. I’m currently working at AV Dawson and loving every moment! All of my colleagues are so supportive and are always checking in on me to see how I am doing.

“I wouldn’t be where I am now without the help of Middlesbrough College and Close Protection Security. Thank you for giving me this chance- I’ve found where I am meant to be.”

Sam Gibson, the Operations Director at Close Protection Security said: “Vinnie showed great initiative to present his CV and covering letter whilst still on the course and because of this I interviewed him straight away. Vinnie had the right qualities required and when he had his licence granted I took him on. He has proved to be a very strong and reliable member of the team and deserves to be at our number one prestige site. Well done!”
