Casey and Cameron Lewis are hitting the mark with their gastropub business which is attracting folk from around the world. Since opening in July, The Brickyard in Brotton has proved a huge success offering tasty meals, fine dining experiences, open mic nights and themed events.
The Redcar twins, aged just 20, both studied catering at Middlesbrough College before honing their skills in professional kitchens in Harrogate, including the award-winning Rudding Park. Since moving into the building on the High Street, they’ve received rave reviews for their food which celebrates British and French classics, while supporting local farmers and grocers.
Previous customers include World Darts Championship runner-up Gian Van Veen, who enjoyed the BBQ pulled pork parmo during a visit in November. Others have travelled from as far as Norfolk and Nottinghamshire, while they have also had visitors from Spain popping in while visiting the area.
The business is spread across two floors with the restaurant upstairs and a micro pub below. The walls were stripped back to brick, and decorated to reflect the industrial heritage of the area.
Live sports are shown every day and there are weekly darts competitions on Thursdays as well as one-off special events, such as clairvoyant nights. Chefs Casey and Cameron are passionate about their craft, celebrating British culinary heritage, with innovative flavour combinations.
“When we first opened the first four or five months, it was were absolutely rammed every day,” said Casey. “We’re still getting really good numbers for January. We both went to college in 2022 and then went to Harrogate and trained at Rudding Park to learn what food could actually be. I worked in the kitchens and Casey worked in the hotels.
“We do fine dining once a month and we have Sunday dinners with a modern twist. I know a lot of places in the area do carvery but that’s not our thing. Me and Casey are far from traditional in everything we do. If you want a modern take on a Sunday dinner then get yourself down.” After enjoying the success in 2025, Casey said in the future they hope to open a second business, potentially in Whitby.
Their proud mum Donna told Teesside Live: “With them being twins they were born prematurely at 26 weeks and all the troubles they had from when they were born to how they are doing now is amazing. They are so well-driven. When you come home from work it’s the last thing you want to be doing – thinking about work – but they are putting cooking programmes, constantly watching and getting new ideas. I say to them ‘haven’t you had enough of food?!'”
The business has attracted rave reviews with one TripAdvisor declaring it “the best food in a ten-mile radius possibly even further”. Another visitor said: “New favourite place to eat First visited for breakfast with my granddaughter and the best breakfast I’ve had for a long time, delicious. Came last night with friends, all five meals were excellent. Amazing food, excellent staff and relaxed atmosphere. Brilliant addition to Brotton and look forward to visiting again.”
