09 May 2022

Level 3 Media Technical Diploma student Baker Lillivick is running his own radio show after impressing his work placement employer, CVFM radio!

CVFM Radio (Community Voice FM) is a not-for-profit media organisation based in Middlesbrough. The grassroots-led radio station serves the diverse population of Middlesbrough, delivering community focused projects and offering a wide range of programmes for all musical tastes.

Middlesbrough College and CVFM radio work in partnership to offer students work placement opportunities, to improve their knowledge of the media industry, gain real hands-on-experience in the sector and nurture the up-and-coming talent of the future.

Middlesbrough College student Baker Lillivick has impressed CVFM radio with his talent and dedication and is now running his very own radio show, ‘Baker’s lunchtime crunch’, which takes place every Wednesday, 12pm-2pm.

Idrees Rashid, the Director of Operations at CVFM radio said: “CVFM radio is a community driven radio station, and we aim to offer as many students as possible the opportunity to put what they are learning at college into practice here. It is very important to us to support and encourage new talent and we absolutely love working with Middlesbrough College. I’m part of the Equality and Diversity board at the College and we have a fantastic working relationship.

“Baker is a fabulous student and is a real credit to Middlesbrough College. He is very enthusiastic, talented and eager to learn. He has a stellar career ahead of him and I can’t wait to see what he will achieve next. I’ve loved having him here for his work placement and I’m delighted that his radio show will continue past his placement end date.”

Former Rye Hills School student and talented radio broadcaster Baker said: “I’ve loved my time at CVFM radio and I’m over the moon to have secured a radio spot with this station. It’s been brilliant having the opportunity to do a work placement. It has allowed me to harness my skills and given me a taste of the broadcast media industry.

“Studying at Middlesbrough College has been a wonderful experience. I love the course and it is fantastic that we are studying in the brand-new Digital Centre! The new centre is packed full of state-of-the-art equipment, and I’ve enjoyed learning how to use all of it. My lessons are interesting, and I’ve made lots of new friends too. I particularly enjoy my sound lessons, which have definitely inspired me to progress to a career in radio and broadcasting.

“As well as my radio show, I run a regular podcast on YouTube called ‘Baker’s Chatcast’. I’ve interviewed some incredible guests including Alan Shearer, Jamie Redknapp and Fatboy Slim!”
