Middlesbrough College Sixth Form celebrated the outstanding achievements, resilience and dedication of its students at a special awards evening.

Hosted on Thursday 18th June in the sixth form centre, students, staff and guests came together to mark a year of success, with 20 awards presented throughout the evening.

The event was hosted by Carolyn Yule, Assistant Principal of Sixth Form, and Andrew Heaney-Merryweather, Deputy Head of Sixth Form, who welcomed attendees and reflected on the accomplishments of students as the academic year draws to a close.

Among the award winners was Elliott Casson, who received the Year 12 Earth and Physical Sciences Faculty Award.

Reading the nominations, all submitted by Sixth Form staff, Andrew said:

“Elliott has been the standout student in his cohort, consistently demonstrating an exceptional commitment to learning and an unwavering drive for excellence. He strives for mastery in everything he studies and possesses an unrivalled thirst for knowledge that sets him apart from his peers.

“He is never content with simply knowing the answer; he is always willing to ask “why” and probe deeper into concepts to develop a fuller understanding.”

Two awards were sponsored by Teesside University and Northumbria University, recognising students who have gone above and beyond in their studies.

Lilly-Mae Fielden was presented with Teesside University’s Bright Future Award. Her nomination read:

“Lilly-Mae is a regular in the study area and has demonstrated fantastic determination over recent months.

“She made a positive and mature decision in first year to change one of her courses, and she has flourished since doing so, showing resilience and adaptability in her academic journey. This change has clearly enabled her to better align her strengths with her studies, and she has responded extremely well.”

The evening highlighted the hard work and commitment of students across the Sixth Form, celebrating not only academic excellence but also personal growth and perseverance.
