London drama school success for Middlesbrough College bright spark Jessy
19 year old Middlesbrough College Performing Arts student Jessy Dye has fulfilled her lifelong dream of progressing to a distinguished London drama school.
Jessy, who has always loved the theatre, is set to tread the boards in the capital this September as she has gained a place at the prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama to study for a degree in Drama, Applied Theatre and Education.
The Central School of Speech and Drama is a highly regarded drama school and has produced extremely talented actors on stage and in film and television. Graduates include Dame Judi Dench, Sir Cameron Mackintosh and Graham Norton to name just a few!
After attending a full day online workshop and interview, Jessy was selected out of hundreds of applicants for the competitive programme. Jessy was also successful in gaining places at Birmingham Conservatoire, The Arden School of Theatre and York St John University.
Jessy said: “I’m over the moon to have secured a place at Central to study in September! The course is absolutely perfect for me as I’m passionate about modern theatre. I’m so excited for the next chapter and to further develop the skills I have learnt at Middlesbrough College!
“The College has been incredibly supportive. Although the last year has been turbulent due to the Covid-19 pandemic, my tutors and classmates have always been here for me and have allowed me to develop my skills and talents.
Jessy, who enrolled onto the Acting Performing Arts programme at Middlesbrough College has been inspired by her tutors, she said: “My tutors have helped me to develop and encouraged me to think outside the box. The course has opened my eyes to working in the world of theatre and has allowed me to explore my creativity through physical theatre and devising- I have loved creating pieces of theatre that explore real world issues and trying different roles within the sector, including directing.
“In the future I hope to open my own theatre company. I want to work with young people and make theatre accessible to individuals with disabilities, as it is important to tell these stories and to put this narrative in the spotlight. It’s also massively important to support the arts, especially in the current climate! Theatre is vital as it really can change lives.
“My highlight of studying at Middlesbrough College has to be performing our final show, Hamlet. I played the title role and also had the opportunity to do a production role where I developed my skills in marketing, creating the advertising materials for the show. The whole experience was amazing and allowed me to expand my skillset and grow in confidence. I know that I will be able to develop my own theatre company in the future and create outstanding shows, thanks to the support from the College.
“Middlesbrough College has inspired me, shown me what I want to do with my life and helped me to achieve my dreams, I can’t thank the College enough for all of their support.”
