Overview

This course is ideal for you if you want to work in the Hospitality Industry in a front of house position, a career that can range from hotels, restaurants, pubs and cruise ships to name but a few. You will have the opportunity to work in a realistic working environment within the College's Waterside Brasserie restaurant which is open to the public. You will learn how to develop your knowledge and practical skills which will prepare you for the employment and career progression within the hospitality industry.

  • Development of Personal Skills
  • Customer Care in a Reception and Restaurant (Enquiries, Bookings and Payments)
  • Safe and Hygienic Working Practices
  • Food Safety
  • Preparing for Employment

You will also study English, maths or ICT as part of your main programme

September - June

Entry requirements

You must have achieved an appropriate Level 1 vocational qualification and/ or GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above.

You will be assessed through observation (with appropriate witness testimony), short online testing and on-going assignments.

On successful completion of this qualification you may progress into employment in the hospitality industry or to a Level 3 Diploma in Food and Beverage Service Supervision.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into further education.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Catering and Hospitality students will have the opportunity to work in our award winning training restaurant, The Waterside Brasserie. The restaurant is open to the public across the week and all the food is prepared and served by our students in one of our five fully equipped industrial kitchens.
