Students opening exam results

YOU’VE just picked up your GCSE results – so now what?

Enrolment is now open at Middlesbrough College for school leavers looking to secure high-quality careers in the region and beyond.

From A Levels and T Levels to BTEC vocational and apprenticeships, the College offers courses in every occupational sector and at every level – including engineering, construction, digital, health and social care and more.

Boasting an unrivalled team of industry-experienced teachers, first-class facilities and courses designed in partnership with employers, Middlesbrough College Group is rated ‘Good’ by education inspectors Ofsted and comprises a core further education college, the technical skills training provider TTE and the apprenticeship training specialist Northern Skills.

The College’s £100m campus is home to state-of-the-art facilities including a brand new Digital Centre, Construction Skills Workshop, Higher Education Centre, and ‘campus heart’ – a new welcome area packed with amenities for students.

This year’s A Level student cohort celebrated another near-perfect pass rate of 98 per cent, with more than half achieving A* – B grades. And BTEC vocational students also had cause to celebrate with more than 72 per cent of learners achieving high grades.

Here are some high-flying students who think Middlesbrough College was a step in the right direction for them.

Hannah has university all locked up

18-year-old Hannah Molyneux secured a coveted place at Durham University to study Criminology, having earned a Triple Distinction Star in Uniformed Protective Services BTEC.

Hannah changed colleges, having only joined Middlesbrough College in October last year, but has found the transition to be a simple one thanks to the support of her teachers and classmates.

“I was worried about how it would be to start later than my classmates, but everything went smoothly,” says Hannah. “I had to adapt and meet new people, but the support I received made a big difference.”

Having secured top grades, Hannah now says she can’t wait to take her next step in her way to a career in forensics. She first became interested in the field after watching police detective shows at home and is now looking forward to taking her next step into higher education.

“The experience I’ve had at the College has set me up for university,” she says. “There’s lots of variety on the BTEC course, including outdoor learning. For example, we went on an outdoor learning trip, canoeing and kayaking together, which I loved.”

Mo’s a barrister in the making

19-year-old Mo Ali from Middlesbrough thought there must have been a typo on his results card when he opened his envelope to an A* in Politics, A in English Literature and B in sociology.

“I couldn’t believe it but I’m so happy,” he said. “I’ve loved my time at Middlesbrough College. My tutors have been great, and they were always there to answer any questions I had, even outside of class time.”

With hopes of becoming a barrister, Mo’s top marks helped secure a spot at Edinburgh University to study Law.

Taking you higher

As well as expert tutors and industry-leading facilities, there’s a whole range of measures at Middlesbrough College to make sure students are supported and empowered throughout their studies – from the dedicated welfare team and travel support to an extensive enrichment programme including the College’s popular Sports Academies.

Financial support is also available via the College’s expert team who can help identify funding available.

And MC CLICK – the college’s device loan programme – means no student will go without the digital tools they need to maximise their learning.

The college’s links with major Teesside employers also mean students benefit from employer-tailored skills learning and work placement opportunities.
