FAQs

Our 5 academy members recently played in the AOC national qualifiers at Forest Park Golf Club, where the top 4 players from the North East region qualified for AOC National College Championship next year. All the qualifying spots were taken by Middlesbrough College Academy players!

Previous Middlesbrough College Golf Academy member, Dan Twiby managed to secure a golf scholarship at a US university.

He joined the Golf Academy playing off a handicap of 9 and reduced this to 2 in his time at the College, helping him with his application to the US.

Dan is now back in the UK and is perusing an apprenticeship to become a PGA Professional Golfer.

One of our current students, Michael Hay is also due to progress to Nova-South Eastern University in Miami with a golf scholarship!

Absolutely! We are proud to have had a Golf Academy member positioned in the top 5 of the AOC National Championships every year in the last 4 years.

Michael Hay: Michael has had a brilliant year having been chosen to represent both Teesside & Yorkshire's Men’s 1st teams. Winning the men’s club championship at Hunley Hall Golf Club, the keen sportsman is playing off a handicap of plus 1, having recently accepted an offer of a US golf scholarship from Nova South-Eastern University where he will be heading to continue his education next Summer.

Daniel Norman: Daniel has been selected to play for both Teesside & Yorkshire boys in the last 12 months and is currently playing off a handicap of 2. Dan also recently won the AOC National qualifier, with golfers from across Northern England.

Middlesbrough College Golf Academy Testimonials

Mike Hay
L3 Sport & Exercise Science

I love that I’m able to combine my hobby alongside my course at the College!

I’m part of the Golf Academy, and thanks to the coaches I’ve been able to really improve over the two years. The teams are quite small so we’re able to get pretty bespoke training and develop our individual needs. We also train two times a week for three hours so it’s easy to fit around studies!

Middlesbrough college cricket academy testimonials

When it came to looking at the next step after school, Middlesbrough College really stood out to me as a lot of other courses in the area don’t have an academy!

My course is great and I’ve already found that it’s opened doors for me. I’ve learnt so much from my tutors and alongside the Cricket and Golf Academies, it’s really helped me to hone in on my career aspirations; to become a coach. Overall, the College is great! The facilities are spot on and it’s handy for walking to town on my breaks.
