Certificate in Caring for Children and Young People – Level 1

Units include:

• Growth and development of young children
• Supporting babies to play and confidence building for the young child
• Practical health and safety
• Finding out about forest schools
• Musical activities and technology activities for young children
• Children’s play and leisure activities in the community
• Healthy eating for families
• Investigating a vocational area

September – June

You will spend 4 days in college per week.

You must have achieved 4 GCSEs at grade 1-3 (D-F) or above, including maths and English. You will be required to complete a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

This course is internally assessed using a range of methods which include written tasks such as designing an information leaflet, creating posters and practical skills sessions.

You will progress onto our Level 2 Certificate in primary settings and early years.

You will be expected to supply a folder to keep all your work safe and any stationary you may need. A placement top is not a requirement on Level 1.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home-fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

All full-time students will be offered a number of options to secure at least 10 days of meaningful work experience during the year. This is an important aspect of the course and will help to develop your skills to get a job, progress to a higher level qualification at Middlesbrough College or potentially gain a place at university.
