Tianna Maloney

We caught up with Level 3 Mechanical Engineering Student at TTE, Tianna Maloney. She is starting her apprenticeship with CPI this September, where she will continue her learning with TTE for a year before moving to work onsite at CPI.

She said, “Studying at TTE was great because it has allowed me to develop new skills and knowledge around mechanical engineering. The teaching at the College was amazing, I was always able to ask questions and support from the staff was always available when needed. The tutors encouraged us to aim higher to try and get the best out of each student.

“The industry standard facilities at TTE were also good, the classrooms and workshops are all equipped with the tools we needed. We also received free laptops as part of Middlesbrough College Groups MC Click scheme. This has been extremely helpful as it has allowed me to complete work at home.

“The skills I have learned at College have definitely given me a good foundation to build on when I take my next step as an apprentice in September. These skills are not just classroom based; I have gained lots of experience in the workshop, giving me an insight into the machinery and tools I will be working with in my apprenticeship and future career. I have also developed my confidence when talking in front of others as we have often been challenged to do presentations and work in groups, which has helped to improve my communication and problem-solving skills.

“I was inspired to come to TTE by my older sister who studied here and secured a work placement then progressed to an apprenticeship. She now has a full-time job as a mechanical fitter. The instructors have great experience in the job roles they teach, and I believe studying at TTE gives you a great career path if you want to go into engineering. My younger brother is now due to start the same course as me this September.

“I would definitely recommend studying at TTE as it has helped me secure my apprenticeship which will benefit me in my future career. Whilst here I have been the recipient of the Daniel Thompson award after being nominated by my tutors and I also won Student of the Year this year and this wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support and the quality of teaching from the staff and tutors.

“My career ambition is to finish my 4-year apprenticeship with CPI, training to be a maintenance technician. I have always wanted to go into mechanical engineering and eventually expand my skillset into electrical engineering so I can become multi-trade. I am excited to start my apprenticeship and gain real life experience in industry which will hopefully expand my knowledge in engineering, so I can become the best I can be and work my way up in the industry.
