Meet Precious, MC Digital Student of the Year!
Precious, who studies T Level Digital Support Services (Cyber Security) at MC Digital, has impressed staff and peers alike with her dedication, talent, and passion for digital technologies – so much so that she was nominated by her tutors as MC Digital Student of the Year (sponsored by Resolution) at the College’s annual Student Awards ceremony!
Precious has made the most of every opportunity that the College has to offer, from developing her skills in the classroom to gaining invaluable real-world experience at Furbd for her work placement, preparing for a bright future in industry.
Precious said:
“I chose to study at MC Digital because I wanted a course that blends practical learning and theory and would help me enhance my technical skills.
“The course has been going really well. I’ve learned key concepts and received amazing support from my teachers. The best part has been the opportunity to gain practical experience through work placements while collaborating with like-minded individuals.
“MC Digital has provided me with real-world insights and industry-standard approaches in computing and cyber security. I’ve worked with security tools like Metasploit and Security Onion, learned about industry regulations, and engaged in hands-on activities such as deploying virtual machines, performing software installations, and much more.
“Working at my T Level placement was a cherished experience for me. At Furbd, I gained hands-on experience with real-world IT operations while contributing to bridging the digital divide for individuals in need. My daily tasks included erasing storage drives, using laser engraver on laptops, upgrading RAM on laptops, performing software installations, and more.
“I also had the opportunity to join a CompTIA IT fundamental programme as part of my placement, which provided an amazing platform to learn and collaborate with IT professionals along the way.
When asked how studying her course has helped prepare her for her future, Precious said:
“Studying at MC Digital has definitely prepared me for the future. I’ve learned key and essential theoretical concepts that will be invaluable as I further my education. My knowledge has been tested, and I’ve learned how to stay focused and determined to achieve positive results.
“Beyond academics, my time here has provided me with opportunities to gain exposure to the work environment, enhancing both my technical and essential soft skills.
“I’ve also had the opportunity to take part in lots of extracurricular activities outside of my studies. I’m a Student Ambassador, which means I’m responsible for welcoming and assisting prospective students and their families. I also help them navigate the enrolment process by providing clear information and guidance.
“After finishing my course, I plan to further my education by pursuing a degree. I’m also exploring degree apprenticeships to gain a blend of both academic learning and real-world experience.
When asked what is the best thing about studying at Middlesbrough College, Precious said:
“The best thing about studying at Middlesbrough College is how the College goes beyond its commitment to supporting students academically. It provides countless opportunities for holistic growth, including educational trips, support from teachers and career teams, and rewards for excelling in class or performing well as a Student Ambassador.
“I would recommend anyone to study a Digital course at Middlesbrough College. As long as you remain dedicated, hardworking, and enthusiastic, the sky is your limit.
“My Cyber Security T Level course provides a well-rounded learning experience, combining academic study with hands-on work experience. I have collaborated with employers and other like-minded individuals in the industry, which has been fantastic. I believe this hands-on approach to learning is especially beneficial to the ever-evolving landscape of IT!”
