The Professional Graduate Certificate in Education is a professional teacher education programme that will qualify you to teach in the post-14 education sector. This includes further education colleges, adult and community settings and training providers. The course is designed to meet the ETF Professional Standards and will equip you with a toolkit to teach adults and young people.

January- December

Entry requirements

  • You must have achieved an honours degree, 2:2 or higher in a relevant subject and GCSE grade 4 (C) or equivalent in English.
  • You should also hold a current and valid Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS check) dated within one year from the point of enrolment.
  • You must also have had a teaching practice placement that offers you a minimum of 100 hours over the duration of the course.

Teaching methods include interactive teaching, lecturers, seminars, workshops, tutorials, group activities, reflective practice, e-learning sessions and self-directed learning.

Typically you are assessed by a combination of written assessments, reflective teaching journals, teaching portfolios, and observations of your teaching practice.

At the end of the year there is a compulsory (assessed) student conference where you work with fellow subject specialists. These two days are compulsory. If you are already in employment you must make arrangements to attend.

On completion of this course you will have a PGCE (PCET) which will allow you to gain employment in the post-14 education sector.

Fees payable direct to Middlesbrough College, £2,100 per year.
