Additional Learning Support
With a large team of experienced and trained staff who can support you with your studies, we are committed to providing a learning environment in which there is equality for all members of our community. The Additional Learning Support (ALS) Team are experienced and trained staff who can offer a wide range of support services. We will work closely with you to ensure you are provided with an individual support package.
Our specialist services include:
- Dyslexia / Dysalcia Support Tutors
- Extra maths and English support
- Communication Support Workers for the deaf and notetakers
- IT trainers for the visually impaired
- Specialist Learning Support Assistant to support students with emotional, behavioural and social difficulties or Autism
- Assistive technology and software resources
- Special exam arrangements
The Additional Learning Support Hub is located on the ground floor of the main building and provides you with access to our experienced staff and facilities across the day, including quiet study spaces and a relaxing social space.

We are proud to have the Bullying Intervention Group (BIG) Award which recognises excellent anti-bullying practice and shows that Middlesbrough College takes bullying very seriously and works hard to promote a culture of respect, tolerance and diversity.
Financial Support
Students aged 16–18 receive a wide range of support while studying at MC6. This includes help with:
- Financial support is available for course-related costs such as travel, meals, equipment, trips, and visits. All financial help is means-tested and based on individual circumstances.
- Free school meals continue for eligible students.
- All full-time students receive 10% off food at six on-campus cafés catering to various dietary needs.
- Students may receive support for equipment, uniforms/kits, and mandatory residentials depending on personal circumstances.
- A higher bursary of up to £1,200/year is available for students in care, care leavers, or those claiming Universal Credit or Income Support in their own right.
- Care to Learn provides financial help with childcare costs for parents under 20, enabling them to continue their education.
