Students, their families and staff at Middlesbrough College Group are celebrating a record-breaking year of academic success, as the Class of 2025 achieves the highest proportion of top grades to date across A Levels, T Levels and other Level 3 vocational programmes.
This year, 76.2% of A Level students at the Group’s sixth form, MC6, achieved grades A* to C, with a record number of students securing A* to B grades. These results have led to more students than ever also securing places at their first-choice universities, including prestigious Russell Group institutions such as Leeds, Manchester, York, Newcastle and Durham.
High-performing subjects included further maths, maths, art & design, politics and sociology, with over one in three students achieving an A* to B in these subjects.
As well as a 99% A Level pass rate, Middlesbrough College Group continues to lead the way nationally in T Level delivery, with nearly 600 students enrolled on these flagship vocational programmes, making it one of the largest providers in the country.
This year, nearly 200 students completed their T Levels, which are equivalent to three A Levels, with an impressive 73% achieving high grades at Merit to Distinction (equivalent to BBB and AAA respectively at A Level).

Eve Jameson, 18 from Middlesbrough said: “I’m absolutely thrilled with my AAA – I didn’t expect it at all! Studying criminology, sociology and psychology at Middlesbrough College has been such a rewarding experience, and the teachers have been incredibly supportive throughout. I’m now excited to start psychology at Manchester University and work towards my goal of becoming a forensic psychologist.”
Students studying T Level programmes such as civil engineering, a range of technical engineering and mechatronics, cyber security and health and social all excelled, reflecting the College’s commitment to supporting growth in these priority sectors within the UK economy.

Harry Linsley, 18 from Billingham said: “I’m proud to have achieved an overall Distinction in my T-Level at Middlesbrough College. The support from my tutors was incredible, and now I’m starting a degree apprenticeship in Design Engineering with AM Projects. In five years, I hope to be working abroad in somewhere exciting like Dubai.”
Students across a wide range of other level 3 vocational programmes also celebrated outstanding results. From sport to creative arts, digital technologies to construction and applied science, students demonstrated exceptional achievement, with 63% securing Merit to Distinction grades and progression onto a host of apprenticeships, universities and exciting jobs in the workplace.

Ella Francis, 18 from Middlesbrough said: “Achieving D*DD in Sport and Exercise Science is a huge achievement and better than I expected. I’ve always wanted to work in physiotherapy, and now I’m heading to Teesside University to pursue that dream, specialising in children’s care. The trips to places like Seville, Madrid and Barcelona have been a highlight of my time at Middlesbrough College.”
Zoe Lewis, Principal and Chief Executive of Middlesbrough College Group, said: “We are incredibly proud of our students and staff. These results reflect the hard work, ambition and resilience of our students and the unwavering support of our teaching teams. With more students than ever achieving top grades and progressing to exciting futures, Middlesbrough College Group continues to be a beacon of excellence in education and skills in the region.”
This year’s results build on the College Group’s recent Ofsted success, which saw six areas rated Outstanding and a ‘Strong’ contribution to skills, as well as its position as the top college for apprenticeship outcomes in the entire country. The College’s continued long-term investment in skills and state-of-the-art facilities, such as the recently opened £12 million TTE Technical Centre and specialist health and social care suite is clearly paying off, supporting student achievement, progression and in turn positively contributing to both the regional and national economy.
Middlesbrough College Group’s £120 million campus supports over 15,000 students, including 2,200 apprentices.
