Course overview
Roots Academy is a supportive, 12-week course that offers new beginnings to 16–18-year-olds. The course offers a variety topics to encourage learners to dive deep into career exploring, stress management, life and personal skills. Not only will learners be supported throughout their time with us, but will continue to be supported upon completion, until they have found full time training, employment, or an apprenticeship.
The course environment and team promote Resilience, Opportunity, Optimism, Trust and Support.
- Maths and English Functional Skills – Develop your skills for everyday life, such as budgeting and paying bills.
- Career Exploration – Build your CV and explore career paths and prepare for your next steps.
- Key Life Skills – Break down confidence barriers, learn stress management, make a difference with social action projects and more.
Explore GCSEs, ESOL & Functional Skills
Students have access to all of the main college facilities as well as the 2 Queens Square building which is a dedicated maths and English centre. There are a range of support services available in the College for students to access support with their studies, careers advice and financial assistance.

We are situated in a fantastic location, just a stone's throw from Middlesbrough town centre. As well as being a matter of minutes from both the train and bus stations, eligible students can also benefit from free travel.
