Design and Draughtsperson Apprenticeship – Level 3

Duties could include:

• Creating technically accurate and compliant engineering drawings, 3D models, layouts, and sketches adhering to industry specifications and standards.
• Developing comprehensive design packages incorporating detailed procedures and precise calculations.
• Implementing rigorous quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and suitability of all produced drawings.
• Upholding document control procedures within the engineering office to guarantee consistency and traceability.
• Providing valuable support to discipline engineers, actively contributing to project success.
• Conducting thorough site surveys and generates detailed reports, providing crucial insights for informed decision-making.

Employment in a suitable role for the chosen apprenticeship is essential. Northern Skills will work with applicants to help find a suitable employer where possible but we advise anyone looking to undertake an apprenticeship to actively seek employment for themselves.

Applicants are required to have gained a Level 2 English and Maths (GCSE Grades 9-4/A-C). Certificates will need to be produced at enrolment. If proof cannot be produced or you do not meet these entry requirements, then applicants will be invited to complete an initial assessment prior to acceptance. An interview will take place.

If you do not have a grade 9 to 4 in English and/or Maths (grade A-C for previous GCSE measures) you will be required to continue studying these subjects.

This qualification is assessed through multiple-choice questions, a practical test and a structured interview.

This standard has been designed to meet the professional standards of the Engineering Council for registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) in partnership with the appropriate institutions as shown below:

• Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) (for piping and mechanical)
• Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE)
• Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) (for electrical and mechanical)
• Institution of Engineering Designers (IED)

Professional registration is subject to candidates successfully completing this apprenticeship and undergoing professional review.
