Art and Design Practice (Including Art and Design/Fashion and Textiles/Photography and Graphics) – Level 3

Course overview
Create. Experiment. Develop your unique style.
You’ll work on a mix of set industry-style briefs and self-directed projects, helping you to grow creatively and build an impressive, personalised portfolio.
In line with the most up to date industry practice, this course is designed to be multidisciplinary, allowing you to experience and practice an exciting range of skills including fine art, illustration, photography, digital graphics, fashion and textiles, and to integrate these into your project work. Alongside developing your practical skills, you’ll explore the work of artists and designers and investigate potential career pathways within the creative sector.
Typical routes learners choose to develop their project work in include:
- Fashion and Textiles
- Photography and Digital Graphics
- Fine Art and Illustration
All assessment is assignment-based — there are no exams. You can complete the Diploma in one year, or stay for two years to achieve the Extended Diploma, equivalent to three A Levels.
Taught in specialist studios by experienced tutors, this course will give you the confidence, skills and direction to progress to university, a creative apprenticeship, or directly into industry.

As a Creative Arts student, you’ll benefit from Middlesbrough College’s great facilities and high quality equipment and materials. This includes a photography studio and darkroom, large Apple iMac suite, spacious workshops and print and textiles studio. Students get involved in a range of projects to develop their creative skills including fashion shows, designing posters for theatre performances and the end of year art show.
