So you’ve got your GCSE results – now what?

While there are many different paths to take for your next step, Middlesbrough College has got you covered.

Whether you want to move on to A Levels or are interested in vocational training, T Levels or apprenticeships, we’re here to help.

We are one of the top further education colleges in the UK, with our A-level students this year securing a 98% overall pass rate, including more than two-thirds at high grades.

We’ve trebled the number of students studying T-Level programmes – combining in-class learning with extended practical work experience – while our results for vocational programmes have seen another high with more than 55% completing a two-year BTEC vocational qualification achieving Distinction grades.

And as for apprenticeships, we’re expecting to move from being in the 10% in the country to the top 5% – little wonder we achieved an excellent recent report from education watchdog Ofsted.

But don’t just take our word for it – see what our students say about their time at Middlesbrough College.

A-mazing grades for Rebecca

Rebecca Mewse

Rebecca Mewse scored an incredible three A*’s and an A in A-Levels in Art, Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science.

The talented 18-year-old is now heading to Durham University to study Computer Science and eventually aims to work in data science or cybersecurity.

Rebecca says: “The teachers and tutors at Middlesbrough College were excellent – especially in Maths.

“While studying four A-levels was demanding, it was definitely worth it and I was able to balance work with other activities, something I would recommend other students to do.”

Lola and Layla take the BTEC route to university

Lola Peacock and Layla Abedi

Lola Peacock and Layla Abedi, both 18, studied a two-year BTEC in Health and Social Care, with Lola achieving an A and Layla a B in their final grades. Both are now heading to Teesside University – Lola to study teaching and Layla for midwifery.

Talking about their experiences on the course and at the college, both agreed that they took the right route in choosing the BTEC route over A-levels.

They say: “We really appreciated the trips which the course involved and the workplace placements.

“The first year of the course was challenging with a lot to take on board but the second year was better.

“Our advice to people thinking about taking our course would be to make sure you understand the course requirements, particularly in that first year, and how to improve during the two years.”
