New Collaboration Aims to Create New Energy Training Programme

Middlesbrough College and bp have agreed to collaborate on developing the content for a New Energy Apprenticeship Scheme.

The programme will train Operations Technicians for roles in new energy, focusing on the skills needed for the Teesside region’s low-carbon future.

Teesside is poised to emerge as a leading hub for carbon capture and new energy technologies. 

The scheme will aim to prepare students for careers in this exciting growing sector.

Zoe Lewis, Principal and Chief Executive of Middlesbrough College, said: “This programme aims to equip our students with the expertise needed in the emerging carbon capture and new energy fields, addressing the skills gap and supporting regional clean energy projects.”

bp will work with the college to offer insights and guidance which will help shape the programme curriculum to meet industry standards and requirements.

Work placements, on-the-job training and mentorship opportunities will be explored with a range of regional companies, to provide practical experience for students.

The collaboration reflects a drive to prepare the next generation of energy professionals and support Teesside’s low-carbon transformation.

The programme aligns with the opening of Middlesbrough College’s new £12 million TTE training centre, designed to train students for the green economy.
