Meet Hanphia, an MC6 student with her sights set on a future in Law

Hanphia is combining creativity and logic through a unique mix of A Levels at MC6: Art, Criminology, and Law!

Although only one year into her studies, Hanphia already feels she has gained the skills, knowledge, and confidence to take her next steps. She said:

“When I first came to MC6 for enrolment, everyone was so welcoming and supportive. The teachers were amazing – they’re a big part of why I chose to study here. They showed me around and gave me all the information I needed about the different subjects and areas of the Sixth Form.

“I knew I wanted to study subjects that offered practical experiences, so I was instantly drawn to Law and Criminology. We study real case studies and do investigation projects, which I really enjoy.

To balance her more analytical subjects, Hanphia chose A Level Art:

“It’s gives me a chance to get creative – it’s a great way to balance out my studies.

“MC6 has lots of quiet spaces, so you’ve got lots of room to explore yourself. I like everything about it here; everyone is so supportive. My tutors guide me through things, take time to explain, and make sure I’m comfortable and understand what I’m doing.

Hanphia has already taken part in in various enriching experiences beyond the classroom:

“So far this year, we’ve been on three trips to Teesside University’s Law Court for practical Law and Criminology sessions. Our class acted as judge and jury – it was a really fun day and we learnt a lot!

“I’ve also had the opportunity to complete a work placement. I did mine with Cleary Gottlieb, a Law Firm practice, to give me a taste of what I want to do next.

“I didn’t know anyone in the group, so it really helped me step out of my comfort zone. I loved the whole experience. It really made me think about becoming a barrister one day – it’s helped me cement what I want to do.”

When asked about the teachers at MC6 and support she’s received, Hanphia said: “The teachers are so helpful. Whenever I ask questions, they really listen to me and explain. My law teacher, Tanya, is amazing. She’s really helped me build my confidence.

“All of the teachers here are so passionate about their subjects, which makes learning so interesting. I’d recommend MC6 to anyone who wants to study A Levels after Year 11!”
