Anthony Matthias – known to most as Matty – has joined Middlesbrough College Group to deliver specialist industry training, including courses in Low, Medium and High-Risk Confined Spaces.
Matty was introduced to the opportunity by his colleague Tony, who now works as a trainer at the College. The two work together at the Local Fire Authority, where Matty has served for the past 24 years. Starting his career as a Firefighter in 2001, he quickly progressed to Crew Manager and now holds the position of Watch Manager B at an operational fire station.
Throughout his career, Matty has taken on various instructor roles, delivering training in health and safety, as well as offshore training for the oil and gas sector.
For Matty, his time as a trainer has been a real career highlight. He said: “Training has been a passion that’s run throughout my whole career. When I started as a Fire Fighter back in 2001, my instructor at the time was brilliant, and inspired me to follow a similar path.
“It’s really rewarding to help someone achieve a qualification that they need to progress in their career.”
While continuing his career with the Local Fire Authority, Matty is now dedicating time to delivering industry training at TTE, part of the Middlesbrough College Group.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to it. The facilities here are fantastic – modern, professional, and well-equipped. Having everything in one place means we can focus on what matters most: delivering high-quality training.”
Outside of work, Matty enjoys walking, hiking, cycling, and spending quality time with his grandchildren.
