"My main passions in life have always been horses and hair. After moving from Lincolnshire when I was around 16 I enrolled at York College where I trained to become a jokey.
"At the same time I had a job as a Saturday girl at a local salon which really highlighted my love for the industry.
"Fast forward a few years I'd moved to Thirsk and had my children. Once they were a little older I decided to pursue a dream and joined Middlesbrough College as a student on their Retrain Diploma in Women's Hairdressing - I absolutely loved it!
"After this I began working as a stylist at the College over the Summer thanks to a high demand from clients. I then left the role to continue studying hair. After completing my level 3, I worked in another salon in the area and noticed a job vacancy going at the College salon for a fully qualified stylist.
"It was great to be back in the College environment. The Graduate Salon is such a lovely place to work and the team are fantastic.
"I then decided to complete my assessors course to allow me to progress in my career. It was around this time that a job vacancy came about for a Salon Manager at the College.
"After completing my retrain course I was really keen on the idea of becoming a hairdresser, however my assessor qualification encouraged me to go down a different route.
"I had big shoes to fill but the experience has been amazing. As well as teaching and assessing in the salon, I now managing six members of staff whilst carrying out day-to-day admin - my schedule is jam-packed but I love it. I'm still in touch with my previous clients from the salon so it's always lovely to see them when they visit the salon.
"Lynsey, the previous Salon Manager has been fantastic. She's been so supportive and is always willing to answer any questions I have.
"My journey has been very rewarding and my family and friends always say how proud they are which is lovely to hear.
"Even though I'm so busy at work I always make time for my loved ones and my other lifelong passion, horses!"
