Course overview
A science industry maintenance technician ensures the safe operation of plant equipment by installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems. They work proactively to solve problems and improve their environment.
Technicians need core engineering skills and must follow safety-critical practices. They work in varied conditions, including using safety gear, shift work, and 365-day operations. They work independently and as part of a team, taking responsibility for their work’s quality and accuracy. They may be part of in-house or contractor teams.
These technicians are employed in sectors like chemical, petrochemical, polymer, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, formulated products, engineering, and nuclear manufacturing. They must adhere to strict safety and regulatory standards set by bodies like the Health and Safety Executive.
