Essential Digital Skills (EDS)

Levels include:

Entry 3 (E3) – qualifications designed for adults with no or little prior experience of using digital devices or the internet.

Level 1 (L1) – qualifications designed for adults with some experience of using digital devices and the internet but lacking secure basic digital skills.

The qualifications cover all five National Standard skills areas. These are as follows:

1. Using devices and handling information
Using a range of devices, finding information through appropriate navigation, managing and storing information, identifying and solving technical problems, developing digital skills.

2.Creating and editing
Creating and editing documents, creating and editing digital media, processing numerical data (L1).

3.Communicating
Communicating and sharing content digitally, managing your traceable online activities.

4.Transactions
Safely and securely using online services, securely buying online.

5.Being safe and responsible online
Protecting your privacy, protecting your data, being responsible online and managing your digital wellbeing.

These courses can be completed alongside other qualifications, such as Functional Skills and GCSE English and Maths and an Access to HE course.

Various start dates available

Applicants must be at either Entry 2 – Level 1 to enrol onto the Entry 3 or Level 1 course.

If assessed at below Entry 2, applicants can be referred to basic computing skills (PCDL).

An online assessment facilitated in the College under controlled conditions. Both levels comprise of a single assessment component comprising 3 parts.

Entry 3 assessment – Up to 1 hour 30 minutes plus a 15-minute supervised break, plus observed tasks within a 14-day period (Total marks 44)

Level 1 assessment – 1 hour 45 minutes plus a 15-minute supervised break in between Parts 1 and 2. (Total marks 54)

Upon completion of EDS Entry 3, you can progress onto EDS Level 1.

Upon completion of Level 1, a range of Level 1 and 2 courses are offered by the college that learners can apply for, including:

• Functional Skills ICT
• Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) qualification(s)
• Retrain to Catering
• Retrain to Construction
• Retrain to Engineering
• Retrain to Hair and Beauty
• Retrain to Motor Vehicle
• Retrain to Travel and Tourism
