Diploma in Occupational Studies for the Workplace – Level 1

This programme will have maths and English embedded into the curriculum as well as additional sessions allocated on their timetable to support students get their grade 4 and above in their GCSE exam. Within this programme, IT will be embedded into the curriculum to develop students’ knowledge and understanding so that they can utilise these transferable skills into their future career and next steps.

• Understanding business communication
• Filing skills
• Working in an office
• Developing customer service skills
• Spreadsheet software
• Word processing software
• Understanding the control, handling and replenishment of stock in a retail business
• Understanding the business of retail
• Understanding customer service in the retail sector
• Understanding the retail selling process
• Problem solving at work
• Working ina team
• Time management skills
• Undertaking an enterprise project
• Environmental awareness

September – June

4 GCSEs Grade 2 and above, including English and Maths, or suitable Level 1 course and English and Maths at Grade 2 or above.

Students will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence created during their study programme.

Upon successful completion of the course, students can progress onto the Level 2 Business course, or start employment or an apprenticeship.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home-fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

Within this programme learners are expected to complete 30 hours placement within the year and will be supported by the placement team to give them the experience they need to be work ready. Following a holistic approach, this work experience will feed directly into the units that are taught and can utilise what they have learnt into their summative assessments and social action projects.
