If you are interested in following a career within the creative sector, then this is a great place to start. In line with the most up to date industry practice, this course is designed to be multidisciplinary, allowing you to experience and practice an exciting range of skills including fine art, illustration, photography, digital graphics, fashion and textiles, and to integrate these into your project work. As well as exploring set briefs, you will also develop independent creative projects, allowing you the freedom to develop your project work in an individual way.
Typical routes learners choose to develop their project work in include:
Fashion / Textiles
Opportunities using our well-equipped fashion, textiles & print studios: fashion design and illustration, fashion branding, garment and accessory production, screen printing, creative textiles, interior design and surface pattern.
Photography / Digital Graphics
Opportunities using our well-equipped digital suites, photography studios and dark room: studio and location photography, image editing and manipulation, printmaking, creative experimental techniques, studio and lighting management and image communication.
Fine Art / Illustration
Opportunities using our well-equipped art & print studios, and digital suites: concept investigation, drawing, painting, traditional and digital illustration, concept art, installation and large scale 3D work.
As well as Practical Skills and Creative Projects, you will work on Personal Progression, where you will investigate career opportunities and routes within the creative sector.
There are no exams on this course, as all work undertaken is assignment based. You can study this course for one year to achieve the Diploma, or two years to achieve the Extended Diploma.

Explore Creative Arts
As a creative arts student, you’ll benefit from Middlesbrough College’s great facilities and high quality equipment and materials. This includes a photography studio and darkroom, large Apple iMac suite, spacious workshops and print and textiles studio. Students get involved in a range of projects to develop their creative skills including fashion shows, designing posters for theatre performances and the end of year art show.
