Access to Higher Education Diploma (Law and Criminology) – Level 3

You will study 60 credits to achieve the overall Diploma, this consists of various modules:

6 credits of:

• The Court System and Legal Personnel
• Non-Fatal Offences
• The Law of Homicide
• The Law of Negligence

3 Credits of:

• Consumer Law
• Crimes of Dishonesty
• Law and Morality
• Miscarriage of Justice
• Sources of English Law
• The Elements of a Crime
• the Formation of a Contract
• Academic Writing Skills
• Presentation Skills
• Reading and Note Making
• Reflective Practice
• Researching and Understanding Opportunities in Higher Education

September – June. Students will study. 3 days per week, between 9am – 5pm.

Applicants must be 19 years or older and have GCSE English and maths at 4 or above or level 2 functional skills or equivalent.

Students will complete a range of internally set assignments. They include essays, presentations and scenario based questions related to criminal cases. Students gain pass, merit and distinction grades in each assignment and receive an overall grade for each unit.

The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Law and Criminology) course is suited to students who wish to study a Law, Criminology or joint degree. This could then lead to a career in both legal professions and the criminal justice agencies after undergraduate study.

You may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Advanced Learner Loan: If you are aged 19-23 and this is not your first full Level 3 qualification or you are aged 24 or over on the start date of the course, you will have to pay fees. However, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. You can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) to fund all or part of the fee.
