Access to Higher Education Diploma (Health – Nursing/Paramedic/Midwifery) (Distance Learning) – Level 3

• Poverty in Contemporary Britain
• Mental Health
• Professionalism and Multidisciplinary Teams
• Psychological Perspectives in Health
• Safeguarding
• Nutrition and Digestion
• Cardiovascular and Respiratory Emergencies
• The Cause and Control of Disease
• Human Body Systems

You will have the opportunity to work with aspects of applied human biology, immunopathology, psychology and sociology of health as well as study values-based health care and contemporary issues in health.

Students will also study English at Level 3 and mathematics at Level 2.

September – June. This course is a 100% online distance learning course.

You must have maths and English at Level 2, and two suitable references may be required. If you don’t currently hold maths and English at Level 2, ask us about our 10-week Pre-Access course!

Experience in the care industry will also be taken into considering if you have not been in education for some time.

You will be asked to complete a short personal statement detailing your Higher Education aspirations and any relevant skills or knowledge you currently have.

Learners will be initially assessed to determine skill-level, and you may be invited to enrol onto the Pre-Access course prior to enrolling onto the Access to HE Diploma.

Pre-Access intakes:

• February 2025 – to join Access to HE diploma Level 3 in September 2025
• September 2025 – to join Access to HE diploma Level 3 in January 2026

You will be assessed on a continuous basis throughout the Diploma.

Assessment methods will be flexible and creative and will echo those used in Higher Education, preparing you for the assessment methods you will experience at university.

The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Health – Nursing/Paramedic/Midwifery) will provide you with transferable skills, allowing you to progress onto a range of our Higher Education courses.

Whether you aspire to become a nurse, midwife, paramedic, or other healthcare professional, this course lays the groundwork for your journey into the healthcare profession.

Many of our past students have progressed onto our foundation degrees in Health, Wellbeing and Social Care, Early Childhood Practice, Social and Public Sector Studies and Youth, Childhood and Community Studies, before completing a relevant top-up degree at University Centre Middlesbrough, part of the Middlesbrough College Group.

You may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Advanced Learner Loan: If you are aged 19-23 and this is not your first full Level 3 qualification or you are aged 24 or over on the start date of the course, you will have to pay fees. However, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. You can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) to fund all or part of the fee.
